read an interesting article today on the topic of pinterest & copyright infringement.
and my heart is breaking for the the kids & family affected by the ohio h.s. shooting. so much sadness out there.

i'm happy to report i finally have a finished painting!
in creating this, i used a mix of acrylic paint, staedtler pen, graphite pencil and a hand cut stencil.
i'm quite pleased with this piece, and especially fond of how her face turned out.
here she is getting close to the end
along with with a few soccer games (2- jess, 1- lex and 1- the hubs & i) and arting i also managed an 8 mile run!
(which btw, completely kicked my butt!)
running oh how i've missed thee!
it's been about a year and a half since i quit running due to some issues with my knee.
over the past few months i've been slowly trying to build up a base again so i can run the portland rock 'n' roll 1/2 in may.
i think running makes me a better artist.
okay, maybe it's just exercising in general... but. i prefer running. :)
here's something else i'm adding to my "to make" list...
for me, painting is like a puzzle without a box.
lots of pieces, colors & shapes.
with no idea what the end picture is going to look like until those final pieces are in place.

my mom & i went and checked out the new dick blick in portland last week.
beautiful store.
prices didn't seem to be quite as nice as online.
not to mention they were out of stock on a lot of items.
i think i will stick to ordering online & hitting the store only for art supply emergencies.
ahhhh. there's nothing quite like a fresh pile of goodness to get you going!
spent the day just messing around and trying to find myself again.
can i just say... i LOVE painting. i LOVE color. i LOVE doodling!
and just an fyi... this blog is sick awesome! (IMHO)
i had to laugh when i reread the last post...

i think i really made my computer mad!
it completely bit the dust on Sat.
thank my GOOD GOD that i actually had a back up.
i took it in to the mac gurus here in portland and they informed me that it has a bad battery, bad panel thingy (can't remember exactly what they said) and a bad hard drive. boooo :(
the good news is- it's still within the 3 yr. apple care and they are sending it back to apple to get it all fixed up!
i can't do without a computer so I ended up getting a new one and will be gifting that one to my oldest, who really needed a computer for college anyways.
now that i'm back up and running, and mentally over the dent in my pocketbook, i'm thrilled to have a new computer!
oh, and as far as those goals...
i accomplished them all except for the swim and a few peppermint patties. :)
my plan for today is to keep it simple...
easy enough?
i'll let you know tomorrow.
my valentine's day was pretty ideal.
simple. the hubs made dinner and then we went to see safe house at the $5 tuesday night theatre!
one thing that was a bit different about this valentine's day though...
both our girls getting gifted with valentines from boys.
lex (almost 17) has a boyfriend so that's completely understandable and sweet.
jess (only 11) had two diff. boys giving her gifts! one of them gave her a teddy bear, a huge card, chocolates AND a rose. the other gave her a 14k gold necklace with possibly a real diamond! yikes!!!
seriously?
is this normal?
(and for the record- we're making her return the necklace)

yikes. the things you don't see till later.i was planning on just doing image transfers but for some reason the transfer paper was not working.
so plan b it was. silk screening. during the process i will admit to many, MANY- "what was i THINKING!" moments.
i used sari ribbon for the hangy part.
...and notice the wishbone-ish shape in the birds belly.
well. that's what it was supposed to be anyways.
kinda looks like a steak too.
