some sort of yogurt drink in a jar, blue eggs and some veggies waiting to be sold.
after several days just outside of Hong Kong, Lex and i headed up to Beijing.
i've been coming here for seven years.
this is my first time anywhere but southern China.
i'm thrilled for an excuse (my daughter) to see more of this country.
noodle shop
these are pictures from a small street market that we happened upon behind our hotel.
lots of three wheeled bikes parked while their owners are shopping.
i want to shop this way!!!
a gal scaling and gutting your fish while you wait.
so many freshies to choose from!
this picture i actually took from another market the day before.
scorpions, seahorses and starfish - skewered and ready for the bbq.
any takers?
I don´t know how long you are in Beijing for, but if you have the time to visit the Antique Market, do so! I just know you´d love it! I might only be open on Sundays or another day, but ask at your hotel, they´ll know.
If you´re looking for fabrics, there´s a great shop called the Silk and Cotton shop in Wang Fu Jing street (main shopping street), but everything else is very commercialized there.
The Forbidden City is awesome, and is a must, even though it´s big and empty apart from the tourists. It´s just really, really awesome. When you come out in the back after walking through it, you can continue up the hill on the other side, I think there´s a little tea hut there that goes perfectly along the view.
Another option if you have time is to take a bus or cab to the wall. The Great Wall, I mean. It´s about three hours from Beijing, and it´s pretty cool to walk along on top of it.
The summer Palace is also very beautiful, with loads of ancient beauty, right by a man-made lake. It´s surrounded by cherry-blossoming trees in the spring, and looks... I feel like I´ve used up all the superlatives now...
Enjoy your time!
Lots of love and a little envy, Janne

i've been gobbling up your last few posts, michelle... when you've posted before about being in china, i've always hoped you'd sneak in a few pictures of the factory producing your work. it must be amazing to see your visions re-created that way. i am so fascinated by the process! and i think it's wonderful you took your daughter with you to enjoy and learn about the culture!
