While on vacation in San Diego I was able to cross #16 off my infamous LIST!
We went and visited artist Niki De Saint Phalle's Queen Califia's Magical Circle in Escondido. It's funny, but if this wasn't on my "list", as much as I wanted to see it-I don't think we would have. And. That's why I have lists!
It was 99ยบ out so we had the place to ourselves. can u imagine!
This place was so unassuming, in the back of a park, in Escondido!!, down a trail that felt like it was in the middle of nowhere.
Maybe that's what seemed to make it even more special.
I'd love to make some sort of mosaic sculpture for my yard someday. Anyone know of a good book or resource on how to go about a project like this?
This was a treat to see. And it's so much better in person.
Niki De Saint Phalle was a prolific artist working in all types of mediums all over the world. Make sure to check out her website for other installations. There may be one near you!
Thanks for uncovering this great lil artistic spot & telling us about it!!! "I want to go to there!" Sounds like you were so inspired too! So happy to travel along as you cross things off your list! You're so amazingly special, Michelle!!!
(And, I so need 2take some blog lessons from u!)

I lived there for two years and had no idea. RATS~! Thanks for sharing. FYI- yep, one weekend a year it will get REAL hot near the End of August/Early Sept. The locals go mad without their million dollar 70-degree weather, hehe. Although Esc. gets 10 to 15 degrees hotter than the coast.

Yes...I have been doing mosaics lately and have been wanting to do a 3D dog sculpture. I found a book by Sherri Warner Hunter called "Creative Concrete Ornaments for the Garden" and I have to say it is one of the most informative books I have found in a long time. She shares all of the technical info you need to make mosaics like these...I bought it on Amazon used for like $15.00. Great book. Thanks for sharing these...very inspiring!
