The weekend going into spring break, which was March 28th (friday) through the 30th (sunday), I went on this awesome mission trip through my church called Mission PDX! (It all took place in Portland.) It was really fun for me even though it was a lot of work.
On Friday night we went to a place called Bridgetown Ministries, where we did walk-a-bouts or prayer walks. The walk-a-bouts are where you get to walk around Portland with sandwiches and some hot cocoa. You hand out the food and drinks to the homeless people on the streets and then you can ask them if you can pray for them. Some of them will let you and others won't. What do you get when you walk around Portland praying? Exactly that, prayer walks... which I participated in. Every couple of blocks there would be an assigned thing to pray for.
On Saturday we split up into groups and did an assortment of things. My group went grocery shopping and prepared about two weeks worth of meals for a family who has a son (Carter) who has cancer. He is only 11 months old and it is really sad. They also have a 2 1/2 year old daughter. The meals we cooked were freezable so that anytime they could pop one into the microwave and have it ready in less than five minutes. We put all of our meals in a box that we decorated with prayers and other pictures, which they loved. So, please pray for Carter and the rest of the Wax family, while they are in this time of need. Another team also helped them out by mowing their lawn, weeding, and planting pretty flowers!! Then, in the afternoon, they held an ice cream social at Open House Ministries, for a bunch of kids. Team A built a fence for a family, which took all of Saturday and most of Sunday. Lastly, team C went to Cooper Mountain Trail and helped transplant a bunch of flowers.
On Sunday all the teams, but team A, who had to finish the fence, went to the Smith and Bybee Wetlands. While we were there, we removed a ton of non-photo-biodegradable mesh from trees. (I still think I should have gotten extra credit in science for doing that, since we have been studying the environment and how to "save" it.) It was tough work and it took forever. By the end everyone was tired and dirty!!
I hope that everyone we helped felt blessed because I felt so good when I did those activities for the families and other people. So all in all it was an exciting three days with lots of work. We did have some fun at Rocky's Pizza and at the Salvation Army, where we spent the night on Friday and Saturday. Oh yeah and we got the coolest shirts from the trip (though some people thought we were from juvie because we were all wearing them):

P.S. Thanks Aunt Cindy and Uncle Kerry for the cool fabric belt!!
